    • The Research on Digital Architectural Design and Structural Form

      2014(6):27-31. DOI: 10.13791/j.cnki.hsfwest.20140606

      PDF 9.79 M (2177)

Abstract:There are great differences between architectural design and structural design in the aspects of thinking mode and design objective. The design of practical projects always develops along with compromise between the two professions. This working pattern is not considered as an effective way for structures in taking its good effects in architectural design, and may probably lead to waste.Penetration of contemporary digital technologies in architectural industry makes it possible for the architectural and structural design to be integrated on the digital platform. In the 2014 Tsinghua parametric design workshop, forms of folding plate structure are explored along with the teaching process of Grasshopper.Form generation and structural simulation are carried out on the Grasshopper platform. Laser cutting and 3D printing technologies are also employed in elements fabrication. This article introduces the technical issues and thinking related to this experimental project.

Abstract:The“Eight Views”culture is being regarded both as a spacial literature and a literary space. As a comprehensive cultural phenomenon,it has two important connotations—literary context and landscape space.“Eight Views”in Chongqing is valuable owing to its characteristics on geographical culture and the artistic feature and integrity on poetry, and demonstrates the ancient value of mountains and rivers. This paper expounds the coupling between these two connotations by the case study of ancient“Eight Views”in Chongqing, and argues that the former takes effect on the latter through the Chinese ancient aesthetic traditions;conversely, the latter reacts to the former through behaviors. Finally, the paper summarizes the characteristics of Chongqing“Eight Views”in order to offer some enlightenment for the construction of cities with mountains and rivers.
