Abstract:The rapid production, dissemination and disappearance of information in the age of social network fundamentally changed the life of university student. The fragmentation of knowledge caused by this process forms a new challenge to the traditional teaching model of architectural history. Facing this challenge, this essay argues that it is necessary to strengthen the belief in the constant and deep value of architectural thought, in contrast to the superficiality prevalent today. As to the concrete measure, this essay suggests an enhancement of the introduction and utilization of the unit ideas of western thought, a concept proposed by Arthur Lovejoy. These ideas could be incorporated into the analysis of classical works and the theories of crucial architects. This essay uses Sullivan’s famous phrase “form follows function” as an example to show how the unit idea of Aristotelian teleology could help to disclose Sullivan’s real intention. And finally, it is argued, unit ideas could contribute to the clarification of history, increase the depth of historical teaching and as a significant instrument, counterbalance the tendency of fragmentation and superficiality.

Abstract:There are some domestic opinions in recent years which believe that explaining the history of modern foreign architecture with the thread of trends of western architectural thought is oversimplified. By discussing what kind of history of architecture we may ‘teach’ today and the specific modern way of architectural development, this paper gives the idea that taking the trends of western architectural thought as the thread is still the best way of teaching.

Abstract:The paper deals with some thoughts about the evolution of modern conservation policies in an attempt to answer the question - What is modern conservation. In the first part, entitled the Recognition of heritage, through the Theory of Restoration by Cesare Brandi and some of the international documents in the matter, the author indicates how the international conservation doctrine proposes to offer guiding principles that should be applicable in the different cultures. He concludes that modern conservation is necessarily based on the application of certain universal principles and on the recognition of the specific heritage significance at the local level. The second part of paper deals with issue of Values and significances with special emphasis on Outstanding Universal Value as the condition for the inscription on the World Heritage List. The third part of the paper provides an answer to the complex question - what is Modern conservation and claims that it refers to the policies and strategies of conservation and development of heritage sites that characterize the present-day heritage attitudes of the society. Some innovative moments in the process of the conservation of cultural heritage during the second half of the 20th century are pointed out and as a conclusion it is stated that modern conservation is infieri, i.e. in the course of execution. The challenge, on behalf of the international community, is to make sure that the doctrinal texts and principles are truly universal and capable of being applied in the local contexts. At the same time, it is the responsibility of each place and local community to recognize the specificity of its heritage, and to understand how this should make part of the integrated conservation within the culturally and environmentally sustainable development, avoiding the symptoms and misguided illusions offered by globalization.

Abstract:hospital buildings are considered in the sense of the linkages interweaving inside and outside .With the metaphor of interventional therapy which is a medical concept, “intervention” is used to review the changes of these linkages in hospital updating as a new epistemology. Update activities “intervene” in five aspects of linkages including urban, space, behavior, functions and time, for the space-time continuous integrity of hospital building. In addition, as a update method, “intervene” based on how hospital functions link to urban and with each other, redefine these relations through coordinating urban pattern, organizing flow lines, integrating function, teasing space structure and timing construction. As a result, upgrading the overall hospital system is accomplished.

Abstract:In order to prevent the overall urban environment from worsening and realize the harmonious and sustainable development between city and nature, explorations on the ways of protecting and making use of mountains in city have increasingly become the focus point of planners. Yantai is a city with typical landscape pattern, so it adopts the way of delimiting the green line in the planning and implementation level to protect the damaged mountains and improve the overall urban ecological environment. Adopting the GIS analysis method, it obtains a comprehensively theoretical analysis line of preserving the mountain green space by conducting analysis in terms of the line of natural mountains, the function line of ecological service for city and the line of management. The theoretical line was fi nally revised to be a delimiting line with practicality for mountain green space.
