Abstract:Urban park design is one of the important courses for the undergraduate students of landscape architecture. With the development of the urban park, some new ideas and methods have taken on the park design, which is worth reflections. Taking the students’ work winning first prize of 2011 university student design competition of CHSLA as an example, this paper introduces the whole teaching process, from the preliminary analysis to conceived conception, and from initial design to detail design, puts forward the emphasis for the various stages in teaching based on the characteristics of urban park design, and makes a preliminary attempt for innovation of the teaching idea and method.

Abstract:Parks reflect the close relationship between the political system, economic development and citizens’ life. The studies on the origin of parks play a landmark role in dividing the stages of urban civilization development. For the existing conclusion that parks came from the cities of late Qing Dynasty, this paper argues that it isn’t accurate. Due to the popularization of having fun with the citizens, the transformation of commercial and recreational city and the rise of citizen culture, the parks in the open streets have been gradually formed. Combined with the existing research and historical literature retrieval, based on the parks and the classification of public gardens and the parks’ concepts and elements, this article summarizes three core elements of the Song Dynasty parks, including orientation of public investment, urban public space and artificial landscape scale.

Abstract:This article studied landscape resources within the planned areas of China- Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City. It raised the concept of Eco-gene in the progress of urban planning and construction, and described the content and classification of natural ecological genes, the content and classification of cultural ecological gene. Meanwhile, the article also discussed the characteristics of localism, inheritance and variability, and proposed the evaluating method for selecting effective protection standards. It raised strategies for regional protection, integral protection and monomer protection. Then, the strategies integrated natural and cultural resources to build a new eco-town performing international characteristics with Lingnan style.

Abstract:The space art of human settlements involves architecture and fine arts, thus space environment and space art are the key to understanding urban space art while space is the source of the concept or meta-notion. This paper, by defining the concept of space and interpreting spatial structure under different context, stresses the virtual imaginary space intentionally, i.e. the space of image or artistic conception, which has been neglected by the previous space concepts, thus trying to establish basic structure of the particular space art of mountain human settlements.

Abstract:Due to the particular climate and topography as well as materials and structures, it’s necessary to conduct an analysis of landing layouts of Chongqing traditional hillside buildings. At present, many problems have emerged in the design of elevated grould floor buildings. As a result, current landing layouts can’t meet the requirements of development of mountain cities in the process of urbanization. This paper, based on the theory of macro ecological architecture, regards hillside buildings and its environment as artificial ecosystems and aims to maintain the dynamic balance of ecological system. It takes the occupants of buildings as the subjects of the artificial ecological system so as to seek the new design strategies in terms of architecture and environment , energy and material circulation, creating an open ground floor space and adjusting the microclimate of elevated areas.

Abstract:Historic towns and villages in mountain areas are important types of historical and cultural heritages with both dominant cultural and hidden ecological attributes. Its ecological and cultural protection should take into account the concerns, which embody the recognition and respect to ecological relationship in such heritage, and emphasizes the basic position and role of ecological protection in the heritage conservation. Based on the association with the historical environment, historic towns and villages in mountain areas have its special ecological problems and research priorities. This paper, taking Bayu area as an example, summarizes the ecological characteristics of historic town and village in mountainous areas, revealing the main issues in the current protection. On the basis of determining the objectives and principles of ecological protection, this paper studies the ecological protection from two levels of ecological landscape and ecological security pattern, proposes the overall strategy and technology framework on protection, sums up the technical points of solving ecological issues on historic town and village in mountainous areas, and explores the protection mode under the mountain ecological perspective as well as enriches the current protection theory of historic town and village in mountainous areas.

Abstract:In order to carry forward the city’s historical context, based on the current situation of the lack of cultural connotation for urban renewal, this paper analyzes the cultural meaning and its manifestations of the old city and concludes that the impact mechanisms of culture in the old city are to highlight the geographical and cultural characteristics, deepen residents’ identity, enhance the cultural atmosphere, and improve the quality of urban life. It takes urban transformation of West Jialing Bridge Village as an example and proposes the cultural strategies: exploring the cultural resources in West Jialing Bridge Village; emphasizing content and performance and combining cultural nonmaterial form and the physical form; displaying cultural characteristics and establishing urban renewal system with cultural representation; attaching great importance to the residents’ cultural identity in urban renewal with the people-oriented concept. These strategies provide positive references for current urban renewal in China.

Abstract:New Urbanism is a movement promoting people-oriented design trend. Its emphasis on making built environment pleasant for people and supporting human’s social activities through planning and design provides positive references for urban planning of walking intervention. Firstly, this paper summarizes the ideas of new urbanism for promoting pedestrian activity through analyzing its concept and development type. Then, it further analyzes the walking performance of new urbanism through literature review, and concludes that the characteristics of proximity, connectivity and place of built environment play an active role in walking intervention. Finally, combining Chinese actual situation, it proposes urban spatial planning strategies of walking intervention from urban and community level, while further elaborating the applicability of planning and design strategies of new urbanism in China.

Abstract:Outlining the approaches for nZEB buildings, this article introduces the idea for the adjustment of the interior environment in detail. This idea, based on the theory of energy, promotes comfortable temperature levels through the human energy balance equation. It also argues that energy theory is extremely important in considering how to conserve energy. Architectural design must strive to obtain accurate knowledge unconstrained by preconceived ideas and utilize that knowledge in exploring nZEB solutions.

Abstract:The Run and Escape Maps (short for Evacuation Topography and Time Maps) represent a series of processes involving detailed evacuation-map making and paving the way for development of methodologies for new post-disaster town planning. These processes are parts of attempts to protect local culture that may gradually decay later, learn from past disasters, and revitalize local areas based on principles of townscape design and urban planning that will protect human lives. This article mainly outlines these processes and introduces the various ways the in which Run and Escape Maps are used, including their application in local workshops and car navigation services.
