    • A Preliminary Study on the Integrated Urban Design of Conservation of Historical Cities

      Abstract:Conservation of historical cities, as a complex project with social practice, presents requirements for promoting urban conservation concepts as well as improving operating methods. Urban design is not only a concept attaching great importance to urban overall quality, but also an effective comprehensive method for improving urban environment, as well as a public strategy of controlling and leading the development of urban space. Urban design, as an important planning tool processing the urban historic context, quality of space environment, aesthetic need dynamically, plays an important role in improving methods of conservation of historical cities. This paper summarizes the eastern and western thinking and its impact on conservation of historical cities, and proposes an integrated urban design method of conservation of historical cities and development.

T his paper gives a general introduction to the legal system of historic preservation in America, the historic preservation management system and economic incentive based on the legal system. Finally, it puts forward some suggestions on the construction of historic preservation system in China.

      Abstract:The new requirements of the surface protection are presented with the development of the wooden-structure protection concept and the traditional method of the surface protection cannot adapt to that. As an international cooperation project, rehabilitation project of Huguang Assembly Hall in Chongqing attempts to improve the surface protection of traditional wooden-structure buildings scientifically and professionally by setting up a special project, laboratory analysis, tests on site, effective methods to different degrees of desquamation and diseases of the wooden-structure.

    • Area-based Preservation and Reuse for the Heritage of the War of Resistance —A Case Study of the Wartime Capital Chongqing

      Abstract:Considering the difficulties faced by cultural heritages in China, and inheriting from international conservation experiences, this paper firstly defines the concept and constructs the assessment system of the heritage for the War of Resistance. Secondly, it attempts to establish the conservation space system consisting of heritage corridors, heritage communities, as well as heritage sites and heritage fabrics, in particular considering the composition of these heritages in Chongqing. Thirdly, it deals with the adaptive technology for the preservation and restoration of these cultural properties, including the continuation of traditional techniques and application of modern technology. Finally, it explores the integrated conservation of the tangible and intangible components embodied in these heritages, in particular through the interpretative reuse of the historic patrimony. The broadening of heritage definition and integrated conservation strategies aim to enrich the regional conservation concepts and methods, hence to promote the sustainable development based on heritage conservation and reuse.

      Abstract:Firstly, architectural resources are defined as existing buildings that can be used as objects of labor to create fortune based on theories of resources science. Secondly, issues of architecture resource are mentioned from the perspective of social production. Thirdly, different types of production values and cost are analyzed, and methods of architecture resource utilization are discussed. Lastly, demands, utilization patterns, production values and costs are realized, and outline of architectural resources theory is revealed.

    • A Study on Traditional Architecture of Bai Nationality in Mountainous Area of Dali City — Taking Nuodeng Village for Example

      Abstract:Nuodeng Village, located in Yunlong County of Bai Autonomous Prefecture of Dali, was once a famous commercial center in western Yunnan Province. The presence of salt well and development of salt economy have greatly changed the development pattern of Nuodeng village, as well as the internal mechanism of settlements. This paper illustrates the ways of how the economic pattern and commercial trade have exerted influence on the overall layout, spatial pattern and single building in the development process of salt well. In addition, given that the village is a typical mountainous settlement, it conducts a comparison between its courtyard building and courtyard buildings of Bai nationality in the dam area in order to find out the evolutionary models of Bai’s settlements. Efforts are also made to explore the internal factors of the formation of the settlements and internal relations of those factors by studying the decoration style and techniques of the public buildings.

    • Evolutionary Characteristics of Eight Sights in the Perspective of Regional Cultural Landscape — A Case Study of the Eight Sights in Chongqing

      Abstract:Eight Sights, as a cultural phenomenon, represents the features of city landscape and reflects the collective consciousness of region and recognition of the natural environment. Eight Sights is also an important part of the regional cultural landscape. This paper takes the case of the Eight Sights in Chongqing as a research subject, and illustrates the relationship between Eight Sights and regional cultural landscape. Four developmental stages of Eight Sights are described by employing the method of literature and historical reconstruction. And it summarizes the main evolutionary characteristics of Eight Sights: the homogenization of object selection, the scientification of evaluation method, the democratization of selection process, the times of aesthetic ideal and the inheritance of evolution process.

      Abstract:Drum-tower of Dong Minority is regarded as the representative building of Dong arhictecutre as well as the symbol of traditional culture in southeastern area of Guizhou Province. It’s of great research value. This paper employs the methodology of field inverstigation and 3D digital model to conduct research on the drum-tower in terms of form and space, construction technology and culture. It systematicially elaborates the characteristics of architectural culture as well as national and regional traditional culture embodied in the drum-tower.

      Abstract:This paper takes a practical project of conservation planning and design of Laojun Cave Taoist Temple in Nanshan Mountain as an example to explore the approach of conservatioon planning and design based on the natural and cultural resources of Laojun Cave. It proposes the development countermeasure combining rational development and conservation, explores the design approach in terms of tourism development targeting, authenticity conservation and inheritance, superposition of natural and cultural landscape, quality optimization of node space so as to improve the tourism and cultural value of Laojun Cave.

      Abstract:The problems faced by the immigrant city in the Three Gorges Area are mainly complex terrain, sensitive ecological environment, and social integration of varied immigrants. This paper presents the master planning of Yunyang County. It conducts a comprehensive analysis of the problems during the process of urban construction for more than ten years in Yunyang County. The research methodology of ecological suitability evaluation and landscape ecology are employed to explore the urban ecological planning ways with harmony between human beings and nature in order to construct the ecological prospect in which the construction land corresponds to the non-construction land.

      Abstract:The lake wetland on Yunnan plateau is of unique ecological value. However, it is presently faced with contradiction between the environmental protection and sustainable development. How to establish the coordinated mechanism is the main focus. This paper, taking Eryuan West Lake National Wetland Park as an example, illustrates the relationship between the living environment and wetland, explores the strategy for the human settlements development, puts the technology of water management and ecological restoration into practice, and proposes the preservation and development countermeasures of lake wetland on plateau in order to promote the sustainable development of human settlements.

      Abstract:With beautiful environment and abundant species resources, the land-lake ecotone along the river corridor has high ecological, social, and economic values. Due to the excessive development of waterfront region and a lack of overall coordination, the ecological structure of land-lake ecotone was damaged seriously. Based on a case study of non-construction land planning in Chengdu City, this paper explores the overall planning of the land-lake ecotone under the longitudinal and horizontal space system. It attempts to improve the water environment along the river corridor, ensure the security of drinking water, and promote the development of regional industry.

      Abstract:This paper illustrated the derivation, evolution and effect of the concept of green infrastructure. It demonstrated the systematic development, as well as principles and procedures of planning and design of foreign related theories. It specifically addressed the standards and methods of the identification of green infrastructure land and then set protection priorities of it, aiming to provide some inspirations for the ecology land use and protection of our country by introducing the new concept and predict future research directions and contents. It’s also indicated that green infrastructure played a significant role in protecting urban land and promoting urban sustainable development.

    • Analysis of Feng Shui Artistic Conception of Wuhou Tomb in Mian County From the Landscape Perspective

      Abstract:Wuhou Tomb is located in Mian County, Shaanxi Province. Wuhou Tomb originates from the background of Chinese funeral decorum and customs and reflects the traditional Chinese sacrifice thought. This paper firstly conducts a brief analysis of the historical evolution, location, as well as the surrounding terrain of Wuhou Tomb. Then it conducts a comparison between planning of Wuhou Tomb and Feng Shui theory of tomb from the landscape perspective. It’s found that the site of Wuhou Tomb conforms to traditional geomantic theory, and has good landscape construction conception from the landscape perspective. In all, this case reflects that Feng Shui theory is of great importance and the construction of tomb environment is unique.

      Abstract:This paper studies the urban residential problems in Chinese metropolis by employing the concept of residential structure. It gives a new connotation of the urban residential structure of Chinese metropolises, involving employment and residential layout, public service facility, as well as housing supply system, and presents the current problems existing in the urban residential structure. Finally, it attempts to propose some relevant suggestions on optimization method of the urban residential structure of Chinese metropolises like compact employment and housing structure, balanced public service facility along with multi-level housing supply system, attaching great importance to the necessity of informal housing in the urban residential structure.

      Abstract:The history and culture of contemporary Chinese city is gradually lost, and the building in the city takes on the homogenization. This paper conducts a comparison between Suzhou Museum and Suzhou garden in the perspective of space and artistic conception. It’s found that the former fully inherits the style of the latter and is very properly embedded in a specific environment. Suzhou museum, which is permeated with the innovative ideas of Mr. Leoh Ming Pei—Chinese style with innovation, Suzhou style with creativity, is a successful practice of an indigenous design. It’s expected that it will provide a good example of understanding the relationships between architecture and city as well as city and environment from the perspective of culture.

This paper introduces the concept of autonomous construction and proposes the autonomous construction mode based on the characteristic of Ghettoize. It focuses on exploring the systematic process and strategy of autonomous construction mode in Ghettoize by taking the work winning Second Class Award of the Third ‘CUC CUP’ National University Students Architectural Design Competition for example.

    • Application of Tunnel Ventilation Cooling Technology in the Rural Residences for Hot-summer and Cold-winter Areas

      Abstract:This paper explores the application strategies of the tunnel ventilation cooling technology in the rural residences based on the national conditions of rural residence in hot-summer and cold-winter areas with large energy consumption. A comprehensive analysis of the factors that influence the cooling of tunnel is conducted, and the material quality of buried pipes and basic technical parameters influencing the cool of tunnel ventilation are determined based on the site conditions of rural areas. By integrating and comparing the merits and demerits of multiple strategies, it proposes the tunnel ventilation – under f loor air distribution composite system scheme adapted to the rural residences in hot-summer and cold-winter areas and presents some improvement measures
