A Study on the Relationship Between Green View and Walking Pleasure in Street WalkingSpace: An Empirical Comparison Based on Multiple Types of Streets in Wuhan
GAO Xiang,DONG He xuan
Abstract:
Street space is one of the important components of urban space and an important outdoor space for urban residents’ social activities. With the revival of slow traffic, the advocacy of “low- carbon travel”, and the proposal of healthy street strategies, the construction of street space has received renewed attention. At the same time, the optimal design of street space has gradually become a hot spot in urban planning research. As one of the evaluation elements of street walkability, green view has an impact on the psychology of pedestrians. And walking pleasure can be used to describe the psychological. The green view data was obtained by analyzing street view images captured by cameras simulating the perspective of pedestrians, and extracting the green part of the image. Factors influencing walking pleasure were screened: safety, comfort, relaxation, attractiveness, and satisfaction. Then their weights were determined by Delphi method: 0.109 7, 0.240 8, 0.271 8, 0.059 0, 0.318 6. In order to ensure the diversity and representativeness of the samples, three types of streets were selected: lifestyle streets, commercial streets, and traffic streets, with a total of 9 samples, located in Wuhan. The seven-level Likert scale was chosen to allow subjects to rate the factors that affect walking pleasure for each sample. Then the walking pleasure is obtained by calculation. First, the characteristics of the green view and walking pleasure of samples are analyzed. The evaluation of the characteristics of the green view of samples is divided into two parts: the average value and the change rate. The results show: 1) Averages green view are in the range of 0.056 4-0.378 1, and the green view of lifestyle streets are relatively high. 2) By observing the change trend chart of the green view, it is found that the three types of streets present different changing laws of the green view. Standard deviations of green view are mostly concentrated in 0.08-0.12, the standard deviation of the street green view has little correlation with the street type. 3) Generally, the higher the average value of the green view, the larger the standard deviation of the green view, that is, the greater the difference in the green view.4. Walking pleasure data range from -1.0732 to 0.8806. Secondly, the relationship between the green view of the analysis sample and the walking pleasure is analyzed by SPSS. The results show: 1) taking the average green view as the independent variable and walking pleasure as the dependent variable, the regression estimation of the two is carried out, and the optimal regression model is obtained: Y=-0.548+3.846X. The average green view of the street pedestrian space is significantly positively correlated with the walking pleasure. When the green view reaches 0.142 5, the walking pleasure is positive. 2) Among the influencing factors of walking pleasure, the strongest correlation with the average green view is satisfaction, followed by sense of security, relaxation, and comfort. And they are positively correlated. 3) There is no significant correlation between the standard deviation of the green view of the street pedestrian space and the walking pleasure. And different types of streets show different changes in green view. The green view of street pedestrian space is also affected by the surrounding environment. Thirdly, oriented to improve the walking pleasure, specific suggestions for greening thepedestrian space of the streets are put forward, aiming at the common problems of the streets and the individual problems of different types of streets. At the same time, three optimization strategies are proposed: 1)when evaluating the greening level of urban streets, the “green view” can be used as a supplementary indicator. Set the green view of not less than 0.15 as the minimum standard for street greening, and set the green view greater than or equal to 0.25 as the “good” standard. 2) Build a multi-level plant configuration mode to increase the vertical layering of the plant landscape. 3) Create a variety of street plant spaces through changes in planting methods, thereby enhancing the attractiveness of street pedestrian spaces. The study explores the relationship between the green view of street pedestrian space and the walking pleasure, and it develops a fundamental theoretical model that serves as a foundation for the best design of the pedestrian space on the street based on walking pleasure. At the same time, the study proposes specific strategies to improve the green view of street pedestrian space, and provides references for building pedestrian-friendly streets and humanized cities.
