Abstract:The paper takes Hu Village in Jixi County, the traditional Chinese village as well as historical and cultural village of Anhui Province, as an example to discuss how to promote the protection of traditional villages as material and cultural heritages through the protection and inheritance of the intangible cultural heritage. Firstly, the paper analyzes physical spaces and intangible cultural heritage characteristics of the village. Secondly, it expounds the relationship between the activation of intangible cultural heritage and the protection and renewal of traditional villages, as well as the protection of the material space and intangible cultural heritage in the three levels of the government, enterprises and communities with existing problems. It proposes that different types of intangible cultural heritage should be combined to activate the physical and spatial development strategy of Hu Village. It finally extract suggestions for development strategies in the four aspects of integrating “human— village—heritage”, improving the inheritance system of village intangible cultural heritages, strengthening the connotation construction of the village centered on the concept of ecological museum and building a multi-party system with special industries as the medium.
