Green Transport Planning in German Eco-urban District —A Case Study of Messestadt Riem of Munich

    Abstract:

    Green traffic planning and management is the basis of eco-city. In the mid 1990s, a series of eco-city projects was launched in Germany to explore a green, ecological and humane future city model. In this paper, firstly, differences on safety, land use and regulations of transport between China and Germany were compared. Then Riem Messestadt in Munich as a case was studied. Investigation of environmental transport planning includes public transport planning, no-motorized transport, and environmental management measures. Finally, green transport planning strategies in residential area of Messestadt Riem was summarized. We will learn the experiences to explore a new-type green city transformed from the closed-end community style, and promote an open and humanized urban residential area with sustainable mobility and healthy lifestyle.
