Abstract:Historical gardens play an important role in the urban green space system, which inherit the historical feature. However, the problems of fragmentation of green space and the isolation of historical gardens are common in many cities. This paper, taking Chengdu historical gardens as example, put forward the view of bringing the historical gardens into the green space system by analyzing the status of historical gardens and urban green space. Historical gardens will be fallen into three parts: the core protected area, the buffer area and the marginal area, which are connected by landscape corridors in the city in order to make the gardens integrated into the green space system to a great extent and inspire its ecological functions. Also the renovation or new gardens should pay attention to the cultural preservation and heritage.
