Hospital buildings are studied in the perspective of internal and external linkages. With the metaphor of interventional therapy which is a medical concept, intervention is taken as a new epistemologyto review the changes of these linkages in hospital renewal. Renewal activities ‘intervene’ in five aspects including urban, space, behavior, functions and time linkages, in this way it can constitute continuous integrity of hospital building in terms of space and time. In addition, as a renewal method, based on the relationships between hospital and the city or other functions, ‘intervention’ redefine these relations through coordinating urban pattern, organizing flow lines, integrating functions, teasing space structure and timing construction. As a result, upgrading the overall hospital system is accomplished.
