In the landscape planning of historical blocks, the selection of landscape elements is short of evidence and there is no effective connection with the statutory planning. This paper explores how to use the theory of urban image in the historical block landscape planning, analyzes public impression through the questionnaire survey, interview, and selects the elements of landscape approved by planners. It incorporates the landscape elements which is recognized by public and planners and takes them as the coordinated control factors of historical block landscape planning, as well quotes plans of regulatory detailed planning in control of landscape elements. It takes the historical block-Xi’an Beiyuanmen as an example, expounds the feasibility of this method from the practice, and summarizes the selection principles of landscape elements and the implications of landscape planning.
