Abstract:Based on the exploration of spatial product ion t heor y a nd f rom t he perspect ive of “spatial production”, this paper reveals the mechanism and features of spatial production in the process of globalization and analyzes t he s pat ia l for m r e c on st r uct ion of C h i ne se cities, the disappearance of city characteristic in urbanization, the symbolization of cultural consumption and so on. The concluding par t of t he paper calls i nto quest ion t he cr it ical p o sit ion of ne o -Ma r x ist s p at ia l p ro d uc t ion t he or y, c on side r s s pat ia l pro duct ion a s t he inherent contradiction in human development instead of the contradiction in capital operation and suggests urban designers making efforts to balance the economic, political, social benefits a n d p r o m o t e t h e h e a l t h y a n d s u s t a i n a b l e development of urban space.
