Spatial correlation of high temperature landscape pattern and outdoor leisure cycling in Beijing

Abstract:
Outdoor cycling activities, as a leisure activity and zero carbon mode of transportation, are deeply loved by cycling enthusiasts and commuters. The rapid development of urbanization has intensified the urban heat island effect, exposing more and more people to the high temperature environment in cities, which inevitably affects the willingness of residents to engage in outdoor cycling. Based on landscape pattern index, linear density analysis, and bivariate spatial autocorrelation to analyze the landscape pattern of high temperature exposure in Beijing, characterize the density characteristics of cycling route preferences, explore the spatial correlation between high temperature exposure and outdoor leisure cycling, and provide reference for the construction of friendly cycling in cities. The results show that: (1) The overall surface temperature in Beijing shows a decreasing trend from the central urban areas such as Dongcheng District and Xicheng District outward. The built-up area of the city is larger than that of mountainous and hilly areas, and the temperature landscape pattern varies in different areas. (2) The spatial distribution of popular routes for cyclists is also relatively concentrated, and these areas are moderately located from the city center, which can meet the needs of cyclists to get close to nature. (3) There is a significant spatial negative correlation between surface temperature and the preference for cycling routes. Surface temperature significantly affects the route selection of cyclists, and the spatial pattern is in a "discrete" state. High temperature exposure - low preference and low temperature exposure - high preference have the highest spatial distribution on cycling roads.
